The participants shall adhere to the following guidelines while making their submissions of corresponding stages. Submissions not as per these guidelines will be summarily excluded from jury assessments.

General guidelines:

  • After you register for the competition, and your and/or your teams’ registration is approved by the organisers, you will receive an email containing a unique identification number (UIN). You will need this UIN for submissions and any other communication with the organisers.
  • Participants will be able to submit a single file per submission of a specific filetype, size and nomenclature.
  • The nomenclature for file naming shall be: “Site ID_Stage ID_UIN”. For example, if a participant with UIN 56ER45, has selected Site L3, and is making his/her 2nd Stage Submission, then the filename will be “L3_S2_56ER45”.
  • The file sharing platform is automated, so please make sure the file nomenclatures are followed to avoid glitches and rejection/non-receipt of submissions
  • The organisers shall not be responsible for receipt of submissions after the deadline in lieu of server delays or any other technical issues. So, avoid submitting at the last moment.

Stage-wise submission requirements

  • Stage 1
    • Concept Note of not more than 500 words, outlining first impression, vision, and key solutions for improving the site.
    • Activity mapping and issues identified on site
    • Graphical representation of the concept, highlighting key interventions proposed.
    • 2 to 4 cross-sections of your site using Streetmix (https://streetmix.net) highlighting your overall vision
    • At least 1 ‘before & after’ graphical representation demonstrating the proposed transformation using any one of the images provided in “03 For Submission Stages” folder for your site.
    • 3 A3 sheets must be submitted in 1 combined .pdf file of size not exceeding 25 MB

 

  • Stage 2:
    • Design note of not more than 1000 words, outlining all design elements used and how they feed into your vision for improving the site.
    • Detailed Design Plan of the side, highlighting all proposed elements. Make sure the plan is a scale drawing and use standard scales only.
    • Minimum 3 detailed cross sections to demonstrate the proposed transformation with supporting description included in the design note. (using Streetmix is optional at this stage)
    • Minimum 1 3D representation of the site to demonstrate the proposed transformation
    • 2 A1 sheets must be submitted in 1 combined .pdf file of size not exceeding 100 MB

 

  • Stage 3:
    • A presentation video with voice-over, of duration not exceeding 10 minutes outlining the vision for the site, the key elements proposed, how they may help in bettering the site, etc. Number of slides and/or the amount of content put in the video is up to the participants, but the length of the video should not be more than 10 minutes.
    • A before-after transformation visual using any one of the images provided in “03 For Submission Stages” folder for your site in the photoshop template named “Stage 3 A0 Template” shared in the Site Brief folder. WRI India may use this template for printing and showcasing the visuals to district officials and/or other stakeholders, so make sure that the visuals are of high quality, but the final output file does not exceed 100 MB.

Code of Conduct

Harassment of participants in any form for any part of the competition including live streams, chats, submissions, and social media will not be tolerated. Competition participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the competition without any compensation at the discretion of the organizers.

If you feel uncomfortable or think there may be a potential violation of the code of conduct, please report it immediately to any or all of the representatives listed.

Participation from all backgrounds is welcome and actively encouraged. Diversity in the competition is what we strive for. Terms & Conditions

  1. Eligibility

    1. Indian nationals between the age of 18-28 years.
    2. Students pursuing post-graduate degree courses in Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape or Planning from an Indian university/ institute.
    3. 4th & 5th year students of bachelor’s in architecture
    4. Young architects, urban designers, landscape architects or planners of eligible age.
    5. Participants shall be required to submit proof of age at the time of registration
    6. Participants should not be related to any staff of WRI India or Office Bearers of the Indian Institute of Architects
  2. Sites for Competition

    1. The selection of sites will be on a first come first serve basis. Once the registration form is submitted, the organiser will not entertain requests for change of site(s).
    2. Participants can take up to 3 sites to work on in this competition and are eligible to win prizes for each of the 3 sites.
    3. In case there are less than 15 registrations for any site, the organisers reserve the right to exclude that/those site(s) from the competition. In such an event, any participants who had registered in the excluded site(s), will be given an opportunity to re-select site(s) that is/are still included in the competition.
  3. Submissions

    1. All applications shall be submitted in English only.
    2. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
    3. Submissions can be made by an individual or as part of a team.
    4. Participants can be part of only one team.
    5. In case of a team,
      1. all members of the team should qualify the eligibility criteria.
      2. A maximum of 5 participants shall be allowed in one team.
      3. Registration will be done by the team lead, and he/she will be given the opportunity to add the details of his team, including proof of age and degree certificates, if applicable.
    6. Participants are allowed to submit only one entry per site.
    7. In case less than 15 submissions in the 1st stage are received for any of the 9 sites taken up under this competition, the organisers will exclude that/those site(s) from the competition and all submissions received for that/those site(s) will be nullified. The organizers shall have no liability whatsoever for any inconvenience/loss directly or indirectly caused to any participant due to exclusion of site(s) and the participants shall accordingly not be entitled to raise any claims pertaining to the same.
    8. All entries obtained through unauthorized sources, or which are incomplete, illegible, mutilated, altered, reproduced, forged, irregular, or fraudulent in any way or otherwise not in compliance with the rules, will automatically stand void.
    9. It is strongly advised not to wait until the deadline for the submission of entries. Neither the organizers, nor the competition partners shall be responsible for non-receipt of entries on account of server errors/ traffic.
    10. The organizers reserve the right to select or reject any submission without assigning any reasons whatsoever and without thereby incurring any liability to the participant(s) whatsoever.
    11. Participants should avoid uploading any proprietary information on the platform as the submitted entries shall be shared with evaluators & mentors for the purpose of evaluation & mentoring. Organizers do not take any responsibility in case of patent right(s) violation(s) if the design(s) submitted is awaiting patent or is in the process of patent filing.
    12. The participants represent that the submission is original and is not copyrighted by anyone or any firm. The participants also represent that the submission contains no violation of any existing copyright or another third party right including but not limited to copyrights, patents, trademarks, service marks, trade secrets or other proprietary rights or any material of an obscene, indecent, libelous or otherwise unlawful nature and does not infringe the rights of others. The participants are solely responsible for the accuracy of any information and conclusions contained in their respective submissions. Further, the participants understand that any submission in violation of the instant clause shall stand disqualified, without any intimation to the participants.
    13. The organizers shall be entitled to, without limitation, publish the participants’ submissions (or part(s) thereof) on their promotional materials, including but not limited to websites, their newsletters or any other publications; without payment of additional consideration, except where prohibited by law.
    14. Organizers reserve the right to cancel the competition or modify the rules, dates of the competition anytime. The organizers shall have no liability whatsoever for any inconvenience/loss directly or indirectly caused to any participant due to such modification of rules/cancellation of competition and the participants shall accordingly not be entitled to raise any claims pertaining to the same.
    15. Once the participants have made submissions on the platform, they shall have no claim even in the event of stoppage/cancellation of the competition.
    16. Removal/ voluntary withdrawal of members from any team is not encouraged. Once the teams are finalised, no form of team modification will be entertained thereafter.
    17. Any decision by the organizers on any aspect of the competition at any point of time during the course of the event is final and binding to all the participants, without any reservations.
    18. The participants shall indemnify and keep indemnified organizers against any claim raised by any party regarding the submission made by the participants. The participants shall be liable to indemnify the organizers for all costs and expenses they may have to incur against such claims.
    19. The participants shall preserve the confidentiality of all communication & information and shall not use the same for any other purpose whatsoever.
    20. If any question, dispute or difference (hereinafter referred to as a ‘Dispute’) between the participant and the organizers hereto arises, the decision of WRI India shall be final and binding.
  4. Communication

    1. If you have any complaints or need further information about the competition or face any technical difficulties accessing the competition platform, you can write to us at MahraRohtak@wri.org. The team will respond back as soon as possible.
    2. During the competition, the team leader shall be considered as the single point of contact for all engagements & communication by the organizers. Furthermore, the team leader cannot be changed during the course of the challenge.
    3. All the results, announcements, and updates will be updated on Urban Labs | WRI India Ross Center (wricitiesindia.org) website. Email updates will be sent to concerned participants wherever required.
    4. All communications between the organizers and team leader will be done through the registered email only. This will be the only form of communication and any other forms of communication will not be entertained.
  5. Winning Entries and Prize Distribution

    1. Prizes may be subject to tax reporting and other purposes, which shall be the sole responsibility of the winning participant(s). The winner(s) agree to provide necessary information to affect the same and to fully cooperate in fulfilling all applicable legal requirements. Taxes on the prize money will be applicable as per the rules on the day of disbursement.
    2. Mode of payment - The prize money will be transferred to the bank account of the winner(s), upon submission of an invoice. Bank account details, PAN details, etc. must be shared after the results are announced.
    3. In case of a team, the prize money shall be transferred to the account of the team leader. The distribution of the prize money between the team members, the share of each member, etc. shall be the sole responsibility of the team leader. The organizers shall not be held liable for any cheating, misappropriations, fraud, etc. on part of the team leader in sharing the prize money amongst team members.
    4. Ownership of Entries: Participant represents and warrants that the Entry does not violate any agreement or obligation to any invention assignment, proprietary information, confidentiality, non-solicitation, noncompetition or similar agreement with any employer or other person. Participant represents and warrants that the Entry is and will be participant’s own original work and does not and will not infringe the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party, including, without limitation, any third-party patents, copyrights or trademarks. Participant hereby agrees not to instigate, support, maintain or authorize any action, claim or lawsuit against the organizers, or any other person, on the grounds that any use of a participant’s Entry, infringes any of participant’s rights as creator of the Entry, including, without limitation, trademark rights, copyrights and moral rights.
    5. Participant hereby assigns and transfers and agrees to assign and transfer to the organizers all right, title, and interest in and to participant’s entry and consequently the organizers will have all rights to copy, edit, publicly display, publicly perform, broadcast, publish and use, in whole or in part, any Entry, in any manner without further compensation during and after the competition.
