Implementing Climate Action in Cities

Bengaluru is currently developing its first ever Climate Action and Resilience Plan. Furthermore, several policy and planning initiatives are also being undertaken such as the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Policy, Revised Master Plan (RMP) and Clean Air Action Plan, all of which are important instruments for achieving Bengaluru's climate goals. To ensure that its prospective climate action plan becomes resolute, viable in the long run and importantly, is implemented in a timely manner, it is critical for Bengaluru adopt the right financing models and governance mechanisms.

What can Bengaluru and other Indian cities do? On 16 January, Rogier van den Berg, Global Director, WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, will share his insights from COP27 and discuss the emerging global best practices on financing and institutional mechanisms for implementing climate actions across cities. After this presentation, Mr. V Ravichandar, (Honorary Director, Bangalore International Center), will moderate a discussion with Rogier and Smt. Gunjan Krishna (IAS Commissioner, Department of Industries and Commerce, Govt of Karnataka), who will provide insights on the opportunities and challenges for climate action in the industrial sector in India. This will be followed by an interactive Q&A session with the audience. The event will be held at the Bangalore International Centre in Bengaluru.
